The vermilion-lacquered galleries surrounding the inner shrine,
a myriad of rusty hanging lanterns from the eaves of various shrine buildings,
and the elegant shrine structure with cypress-bark roofs induce us to fully
imagine the glorious days of the Fujiwara era.
The Man'yo Botanical Garden has the longest history of its kind in
Japan, and there are about 300 kinds of plants, with the use of witch the
classical poems were composed in the Man'yo-syu, or literally the Collection
of a Myriad Leaves. This is the best space where you can appreciate the
Man'yo-style elegance by watching the plants.
