the
first time in Japan. (It is customary for Imperial Household assets not
to be nominated for National Treasure in Japan.) And this storage came
to be recommended as part of the Todai-ji Temple's cultural assets.
The Kasugayama Primeval
Forest was first nominated as a "cultural landscape" in Japan, which represents
Nara.
The Nara Palace Site is
the first asset that was recommended in "sites", because they are of great
historical and archeological value as the lost ancient capital city.
UKIMI-DO
This
is a hexagonal structure whose architectural style is classified as Octagonal-hall
Type. The graceful Ukimi-do, which has a cypress-bark roof, floats on Sagiike,
or literally Heron Pond, in Nara Park.
The image of this building reflected on the surface of the water is
so beautiful that it is the place of recreation and relaxation of visitors.
Because of the deterioration in its structure, it was under repair from
the 3rd year of Heisei till the 6th(1994), and now its elegance has emerged
again.
You can come across this hall if you go through the grove of Asajiga-hara,
or a vast field of sparsely growing cogon grass, down from the Kasuga Grand
Shrine.
